Eleanor Porter in March 10 Washington Post

The Washington Post published a wonderful article about female veterans honored at the Department of Defense 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration. The article highlights one particular veteran, Lisa Porter’s mother, Eleanor. The article shares 1st Lt. Porter’s experience serving at Fort Sam Houston in 1952 and how she met, and later married, 2nd Lt. Tom Porter. The article continues about how the two have volunteered through the Amputee Coalition of America, visiting soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. We will be (and some classmates already are) at the Crowne Plaza at 2200 Centreville Road, Herndon, Virginia 20170. This is right next to the Dulles Toll Road on the north side, and across from the World Gate complex. You should find plenty of free parking there. The party begins at 8PM and wraps-up at 2AM.

When you first arrive please stop at our “check in” table and let us know you have arrived. We’ll check your name on our list and provide a name tag or wristband. If you need to purchase a ticket “at the door” this is the place. We’ll take your $75 cash or check or you can try completing payment online via PayPal with our iPad. Yes, we have embraced 21st Century technology. At least, we’re going to try.

We don’t yet know if we’ll have name tags or just some sporty lookin’ event wristbands – you’ll have to wait and see on that note.

What should you wear? Clothes. Ok, I’m being a smart ass, but we are being casual for the 30-Year party and you can wear whatever you like. Be fancy or chilled-out, we’ll love ya either way. Click here to read our article about party dress.

The after-party (parties?)… don’t know nothin’ ’bout any after-party. Guess we’re wingin’ it!

The LAFA Homecoming Reunion Party will be held after the Homecoming Game (vs West Potomac High School) on Friday, October 14, 2011. The game begins at 7PM. The LAFA booth will be open during the game, at the stadium entrance, where memorabilia and t-shirts will be available for scholarship support. After the game the partying will begin at the Hilton Springfield (across from Springfield Mall) where music, dancing, and some food will be provided. This Lee Reunion party is for ALL classes and faculty. Tours of R.E. Lee High School will start at 1PM Saturday, October 15. The Class of 1971 will present a “Gift of Art” which will be received by Able Jeffers, Principal of R.E. Lee High School. Each tour will be approximately 20 minutes long and continue in rotation until the last tour beginning at 2:40PM.
